I hope articles like this take the US workforce by storm. I've seen how weekend work can spiral into a manager-pressured 'ideal' because it produces more value for less money. I've called my manager out on highlighting this before. Don't depend on management to balance your work life because they won't.

What we, as engineers can do, to fight the cog of capitalism, is care about the overall mental health of our team and encourage each other to rest. Set the boundary of not working on the weekend and invest in family and community during that time.

Ideally, we should be working 3-4 7 hour days during the week. We already have a young generation of increasingly burned out engineers and people are struggling to recover once they hit 30 and realize they've worked themselves into the ground. Wise up and listen to scientists the way France and Australia do! Caring is caring about the health of the people you work with, not how much value can be squeezed out of them like lemons.
